Breathing in the Crisp Mountain Air
Section hiking the Appalachian Trail in the Shenandoah National Park
I found myself doing a lot of solo hiking in the Shenandoah National Park. There are many folks who will tell you that the best way to stay safe is to hike with a friend — using the buddy system — so that should something happen there’s at least a witness to tell your tale of outdoor adventure. But if you do go solo hiking consider keeping the local ranger informed of your plans. Check in with them when you start your trek and again when as you’ve finish your day in the great outdoors.
