The World Jamboree comes to West Virginia and Scouts also gather in Front Royal
Julia & I are Scouters. And whenever we can combine our love of Scouting with travel we are all the more a happy couple. During the month of July 2019, Julia volunteered to work at the BSA’s Bechtel Summit Reserve and I was able to visit her on one of her few days off.
During this event — the Scouting Movement’s “World Jamboree” — the population of this small town swells to the point where it becomes the third largest “city” in West Virginia.
If you haven’t been to a National Camporee or a World Jamboree, make the effort to visit and witness tens of thousands of young boys and girls from all across the globe living the values of the Scout Law.
In October 2019, the George Mason District hosted a much smaller event, the “Iron Chef” Camporee. This camporee focused on teaching and mastering campfire cooking skills. Round robin stations were set up to stress scouting skills related to the safe preparation, handling, and eating of — well — good food!
The photos above capture the set up of the camporee’s HQ and med-station, lights out, morning assembly, pumpkin carving, Kim’s Game, pancake making, the “Iron Chef” troop vs. troop cookoff, a photo of one of the judges, and the night’s bonfire.
