For a unique lunch or dinner, drop in at Johnny Monarch’s in Marshall, Virginia.

We have yet to order a small plate or full meal that disappointed us or fell short to the mark in anyway. The meatloaf is great. The vegetarian dishes are both yummy and filling.

Eat outdoors at any of the picnic tables — each supplied with an oversized umbrella for shade — or “upstairs” on the 2nd level of this converted bus.

This is also a memorable place to host small gatherings. Our Toastmasters club has met here several times. When driving between our suburban home and mountain cabin, I’ve been known to time our travel so that this is a logical stop for lunch.
