Scouting out the Empire State
Here’s a not-so-random record of a trip Julia and I took to Upstate New York. Our mission was for Julia to attend the Northeast Region’s Annual Meeting for the Boy Scouts of America. Her role consisted of being the National Coordinator for the Wood Badge adult leader training program. My job was to serve as her driver and aide-de-camp. Along the way we stopped at the National Fallen Firemen’s Memorial in Emmitsburg, Maryland. While in Upstate New York, we attended Julia’s meeting in Glens Falls. Toured one of the very first Boy Scouts camporee sites in Silver Bay. And sampled the therapeutic mineral waters and stopped for ice cream in Saratoga Springs. Then we toured Chocolate Town in Hershey, Pennsylvania, on our return home.
Where to Stay?
While in Glens Falls, New York, check into the Queensbury Hotel where the food at the Fenimore’s Neighborhood Pub will definitely fill you up. At this pub you’ll find a menu full of delicious appetizers, sandwiches, salads, pasta and a variety of cold craft beers, wine, and other soft drinks.
If you’re looking for a family vacation on a lake at a country resort, look into staying at the YMCA’s resort in Silver Bay.
Of course Julia and I found a “Cozy Poultney Village Apartment” on AirBnB. Do say “hello” to Anne & Brad should you stay in Poultney, VT, located just over the NY-VT border. We were pleasantly surprised by Brad’s complementary pancake mix, apples, and Vermont maple syrup!
