On Spotting Space Aliens and Visiting Kit Carson's Home

In June 2021, we visited two (small) New Mexican cities: Roswell and Taos. Roswell is perhaps best known for reported visit(s) by space aliens. The town has a number of little green men publicly displayed at various fast food restaurants and service stations. Tourists speak of various television shows that weave tales of supernatural characters reading each others minds and repelling physical attacks via the use of personal force fields, etc. All this is in good fun but I found myself looking over my shoulder or around the corner just to make sure that the space aliens were friendly. Taos is the historic home to several Native American tribes. There’s an old pueblo in town. And there’s a museum and home of trail guide and explorer Kit Carson, famous for his exploits along the Santa Fe Trail and other Western trails. Today Taos is the home of many boutiques, shops, and galleries. It’s a quant town and well worth a visit.

Of course enjoying the authentic New Mexican cuisine was a highlight for Julia and I in 2021. We promised ourselves a return visit in 2022 which will be a separate post related to our annual trek to the Philmont Scout Ranch.
